In coordination with Asian Development Bank’s LSC project, one of the strategies CBBS is developing is to foster the professional development of the Panglima Laot. Building the traditional authorities ability to cooperate and coordinate both internally with one another as well as externally with other markets. Professional associations very often create a sense of identity and purpose within their membership by publishing a journal, website, or newsletter. As a mechanism to promote a sense of professionalism as well as a means to collect and deliver the information fishermen need, CBBS developed a fishermen’s website. In order to reach those without internet access, the LSC project is developing and distributing a Fisherman’s Newsletter.

With respect to the website, the primary language used on the site is Bahasa Indonesia. In order to make the site as quick and efficient as possible, it is hosted on a local server (Band Aceh) and designed for low-bandwidth access. The site contains several interrelated databases; one for information relating to Lhoks, another for boats, one for species, one for catch data, and yet another for current fish prices. The website has the functionality so that those individuals with proper access can enter or edit data in any of these databases from anywhere with internet access.

In addition, the site draws upon global ocean data to present real-time information on: tide predictions from seven tide stations around Aceh. Fish price data from locations around Aceh as well as external arkets. In addition, regional weather, and seasurface temperature, wave direction and height, wind speed and direction from offshore buoys.
